Digit# 32 is the first zero!

In the first 10 million digits of pi, the numbers stay pretty even. But in the first 31 digits, there is no zero.(3.1415926535897932384626433832795.)On digit 32, there's the first zero. And on the 50th digit, it's the second zero. It is weird how in the first 100 digits, there are less then ten zero's. From digits 101-200, there are 12 zero's. How amazing!

22/7=Pi?

Pi is irrational, or never repeats or ends. Many people believe that 22/7 is pi, but that's just not true. Here are some fractions that are close to pi:(The bolded numbers are the same as pi)
  • 25/8=3.125(exactly)
  • 22/7=3.142857142857142...
  • 223/71=3.140845...
  • 377/120=3.1416666...
  • 3927/1250=3.1416(exactly)
  • 333/106=3.14150943396...
  • 355/113=3.1415929203598...
  • 15707963/5000000=3.1415926(exactly)
  • 103993/33102=3.1415926530119...
  • 104348/33215=3.14159265392142...
  • 10000000000/3183098862=3.141592653429...
  • 208341/66317=3.14159265346743676872...
  • 10471975511/3333333333=3.141592653614...
  • 312689/99532=3.1415926536139...
  • 5419351/1725033=3.14159265358981532046...
  • 837393900/266550757=3.1415926535898001...
  • 80143857/25510582=3.14159265358979267191...
  • 245850922/78256779=3.14159265358979311600...
  • 21053343141/6701487259=3.1415926535897932384623817427748...

You can see that the six digits "142857" repeating in 22/7. If you extend 355/113, you would see 112 digits repeating. Fractions will always repeat, but a number like pi will never repeat.

Pi Day

Pi day is on March 14, at 1:59:26. P.M.(Get it?, 3.1415926?)On pi day, you should do some of these things:

  • Call 314-1592 and see if someone picks up!

  • Carve Pi into a pie and than eat it!(How does the pi symbol look like? Go to my other post called "pi digits and symbol")
  • Have everyone to recite all their pi digits and the person with the most wins a pie!
  • Visit Savannah, Georgia because its zip code is 31415.
  • Ask a mailman in Savannah, Georgia "What is the zip code?", and see if he/she knows it!
  • Go on to http://www.piday.org/ for more information.
  • Ask people how dare them to round the 5 to a 6!(3.1416!)
  • Get songs about pi.(http://pi.ytmnd.com/, http://www.vvc.edu/ph/TonerS/mathpi.html, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqpWETqoD5Q)

What is pi?

Pi is the relationship between a circle circumference and diameter. If you the circuference and divide it to the diameter, you get pi, or about 3.14159. Pi is irrational, or never repeates or ends. Many people think that 22/7=pi, but that just not true. Pi has been first used by the Greeks, 2000 B.C.E. The Greeks used 25/8, or 3.125. This speread to the Romans, and they knew 22/7[3.14285714285...(The bolded numbers are the same digits as pi)] was closer to pi, but since eighths were easier to draw, they used 25/8 also. The Chinese was the closest in 1250 B.C.E. They found out about 22/7 and then calculated their own, 355/113(3.14159292035...). Today, the record of pi calculated was 1.2 trillion by Kanada in 2002! He had beaten his record by five times in 1999, 206 billion. My other post has 1000 digits. Just in case you need a few, here are the first 100.
